Events & Activities
We run a variety of events and activities. Our activities are generally weekly, and some social gatherings run on a monthly basis. We also hold a number of annual social events that support our chosen local charities.
Club Events
Coffee Mornings
Our weekly Coffee Mornings are a perfect opportunity to network, learn what’s new in Almaty, and make new friends! They occur every Wednesday from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the InterContinental Almaty or one of the city cafes.
While AIWC provides occasional presentations during Coffee Mornings, the primary goal of these meetings is for members to connect and make friends.
Every quarter we host a Vendors Market during Coffee Morning, giving you the opportunity to purchase crafts from local vendors.
Welcome Back Party
Our Welcome Back Party celebrates the beginning of a new membership year and the return of our cherished expat community. The event includes music, dancing, tasty cuisine, and wonderful company. Come reunite with old acquaintances, meet new friends, and enjoy an evening filled with laughter.
Charity Gala
Our annual Charity Gala celebrates and supports women’s empowerment. The night features music, delicious food, silent auction items, and inspiring stories of impact from the organisations we support. All proceeds from the gala will go towards supporting our chosen charity, dedicated to empowering women and girls in need.
Christmas Brunch
Our annual Christmas Brunch and Tree Lighting event co-hosted by Intercontinental Almaty is both a festive gathering and a charity fundraiser! Our events often include a raffle or auction with amazing prizes, as well as a wide range of vendors offering everything from vintage goods to homemade crafts.
Other Events
Our other events include sundowners, cocktail parties, International Women’s Day Brunch, Maslenitsa (Pancake Day), Nauryz (Central Asian New Years), and cultural excursions.

Activities
Sports & Nature
We have a program including a mix of activities aimed at fostering social connections, physical activity, and exploration. These popular groups meet regularly to connect over shared interests and hobbies.
Hiking Group
Hiking group meets every Monday to explore the beautiful mountains near Almaty. These hikes, starting at 9.30am, usually last no longer than 4 hours, so we’re back in time for school pick up. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or a beginner, our group offers a safe and welcoming atmosphere for members of all skill levels.
The AIWC Hiking book describes all hiking trails we take. The book can be purchased at AIWC Coffee Mornings.
Ski Explorer
Ski club meets every Thursday from 9am during ski season, with some members taking lessons, and others who simply come along to ski without an instructor. The club typically enjoys a delicious meal at the resort, before returning for school pick up. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to ski, now is the perfect opportunity!
Tennis
The Tennis Club meets every Wednesday at 9am before Coffee Morning, at indoor and outdoor courts across the city. Players of all levels are invited to join. Our group provides a positive and supportive environment where women can improve their skills, make new friends, and embrace an active and healthy lifestyle.
Languages
Russian
Our Russian conversation group is a community who are passionate about the Russian language and culture. Our meetings, focusing on studying Russian grammar and practicing conversation skills, are every Tuesday at 10.30 am. Join us and become part of our lively community of women who share a love for the Russian language!
Italian
Come join us every Tuesday from 10am at various cafes across the city to practice your Italian speaking skills in a welcoming and supportive environment. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced speaker, our group offers a friendly space to express your love for the Italian language. Participate in lively discussions, language activities, and social events as we celebrate the beauty of the Italian language together.
English
Looking to enhance your English language skills in an enjoyable and encouraging setting? Join us for our English conversation group, where we meet every Friday at 10.30 at local cafes in the city. Our group plans engaging discussions, shares thoughtful videos or readings, and even incorporates games and quizzes. All levels of English proficiency are welcome to participate!
Cultural Exchanges
Arts & Crafts
Our group comprises creative and talented women who come together to share their passion for arts and crafts. We meet every Thursday from 10am, to learn new techniques, exchange ideas, and showcase our work. Whether you’re a beginner looking to try a new craft or an experienced artist looking for inspiration, the Craft Group has something for everyone.
Cook & Taste
We are a culinary community that allows members to cook, discover new recipes, and enjoy delicious meals. Enhance your cooking skills, try out various ingredients, and connect with other food enthusiasts. Our aim is to provide a lively and enjoyable space for members to gather, cook, and savor the joys of food. Come be a part of our club and treat your taste buds!
Playgroup
The group meets once a month on a weekend from 10.30 am at one of our homes. Kids have the opportunity to socialize, play together, and make lasting friendships. Parents benefit from the opportunity to mingle with other parents, share their experiences and tips, and make lasting connections with other mums and dads.
Teens
This is a social group that brings together parents and teenagers to meet new friends, participate in fun activities, and provide support. Meetings occur on a monthly basis, usually on weekends at various locations around the city. Join us to have a fantastic time together!
Evening Activities
Book Club
The book club meets monthly from 6:30 pm onwards for dinner, drinks and literary discussions, either in a quiet corner of a selected restaurant, or at the home of one its members. It lasts around 3 hours.
Each month, we cover either a novel or collection of short stories (mainly fiction). Books are suggested and selected by the group, with a limit of 300 pages.
By participating in book club, you can improve your reading abilities, discover new ideas and viewpoints from books that you wouldn’t normally read, broaden your perspective through diverse discussions and enhance your communication skills.
Evening Edition
Our Evening Edition is a monthly gathering where we come together after work to enjoy a relaxed dinner at one of Almaty’s great restaurants. The Evening Edition is a refined and lively group of women who meet to network and socialize in a supportive environment.
